Welcome to the Department of Zoology Library

Jane Acred is the subject specialist librarian located in the Department of Zoology. With the team, Jane provides services and support to departmental students and members. She is usually in the library office during opening hours but anyone requiring assistance should email Jane before they visit.

Updates

Due to staff annual leave, the library will be closed from Friday 18 September and will reopen on Monday 28 September. During this time, access is restricted to Zoology Department members with card access to the building.

Library services

The library offers a range of services, including:

  • access to books and resources on zoology, both in print and online
  • undergraduate and postgraduate skills training
  • online reading list support
  • interlibrary loans and Scan and Deliver requests
  • copyright support

The Library space

The Zoology Library has a variety of print resources covering the breadth of zoology for undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers. More information can be found on our Collections page. 

There are 49 study places in the library, including 6 individual desks between bookshelves.

Rules

  • Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is strictly prohibited at all times.
  • Food and drinks are allowed, but please make sure you clean up after yourself. There are bins for food waste and everything else just outside the library, near the pigeonholes. Drinks must have secure lids to prevent spillages.
  • Mobile phones and other devices must be set to silent mode. To prevent disturbance to other readers, calls must be answered outside the library.
  • The library is meant to be a quiet place for study, so please respect other people when using the space.
  • Books must not be removed from the library unless they have been borrowed legitimately. Library readers are responsible for the safe keeping of any book borrowed. They may be asked to pay for the replacement of books lost or damaged. 
  • Study places must not be reserved and all personal belongings must be removed every day. The library cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage of personal property.

Access

The library is open to all current student or staff members of the University of Cambridge. All other users must contact the library staff to arrange a visit. Department members and Part II Zoology students with card access to the Department can use the library outside of opening hours.

Access is through a controlled reception area. The library is located on the first floor of the main Zoology Department building, at the end furthest from reception. If you have additional access requirements, please contact the library staffand we will be happy to help.
