Welcome to the Department of Genetics Library!
Lucy Woolhouse is the subject specialist librarian located within the Department of Genetics. With the Biological Sciences Library Team, Lucy provides services and support to departmental students and members. Lucy’s desk is in the Library so you can find her there most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays for face-to-face enquiries, but she can always be contacted via email.

Access
The Genetics Library is open to Departmental members only (including Part II students). If you are a Part I NST-B student or not a member of the Department and wish to visit the Library, then please contact us to discuss arrangements.
Access to the Library is through the Department, which requires card access. This is only available to Department members who have completed their safety induction. The Library is open 24/7, or in line with the opening hours of the Genetics building.
The Library is located on the first floor of the Genetics building, at the end furthest from reception. There is a lift available for use, located by the reception, but there are several non-automatic doors along the corridor to the Library. The Library itself is accessible to wheelchairs, but if you have additional access requirements please contact us and we will be happy to help. More information about the accessibility of the Department is available on the AccessAble website.
Facilities
The Library currently has seven desk spaces, including two desktop PCs managed by the Department and loaded with Departmental software. There is also an e-legal deposit terminal located in the Library for easy access to e-legal deposit material. Toilets are located on the main first floor corridor. The nearest printer is located just outside the Library on the main first floor corridor. For more information on printing, see the Genetics IT webpages.
Rules of the space
- The Library is meant to be a quiet place for study, so please respect other people when using the space.
- Windows in the Library should be kept open at all times to ensure good ventilation in the space, and there is a CO2 monitor in place. Please switch on the air purifier when you arrive and switch it off when you leave (if you are the last one out).
- Food and drinks are allowed, but please ensure you clean up after yourself. There are bins for both general and recyclable waste, and ethanol spray is available for cleaning.
If you have any questions, just ask! Follow the links on the right hand side of the page to find out more about our collections, how to borrow and finding resources.
